Moments

6/14/10

For many of them (moments, that is), my camera is accessible...taking up its proper space in my camera bag; or, like right now, sitting on my computer desk where I left it last night after I downloaded the photos I took of Jake in his Batman mask.

And me? Where am I? Well, I'm drowning in a sea of regret that I didn't grab it and go to town with it earlier today. Why didn't I think to come and get it? I've asked myself this question over and over. Was it because I didn't want to take the time, or did I really even think about it? Was it because I was talking to one of my best friends on the phone who gave me the best news I've heard in weeks (And it's only Monday, so this one is definitely starting out good. God is really something, isn't He)? I have no answers. Call me Clueless! Your guess is as good as mine.

I mean, c'mon! Who wouldn't want to have a visual reminder of their three year old - hair drenched with sweat - rockin' his Spiderman t-shirt - with no underwear on - orange koolaid stain on his mouth - with a band aid on his right knee covering up a huge scrape that he got from falling on the steps on his way back from lunch at school - and running all over the backyard squealing and laughing like it was noboby's business?

Yep, one of those "Moments When I Wish I Had Had My Camera".

There might be more of those...so stay tuned.

A Superhero Takes a Break

6/13/10

Me: "Hey Sweetie! Can you stop what you're doing and show me how you become Batman?"

Jake: "Put down my playdoh, Mom?"

Me: "Yes, please. That would be so great!"

Jake: "Okay, here he is. Grrrrrr....

Grrrrrr."

Me: "Well, that's not exactly what I had in mind. I need you to put your mask over your face."

Jake: "Oh! Okay."

Me: "Wow, Jake! You really do look like Batman now!"

Jake: "Can I play with my playdoh now, Mom?"

Me: "Sure you can, Sweetie!"

Jake: "Mooooooom, I'm not Sweetie! I'm Batman!"

Me: "Oh, excuse me. I'm sorry. Yes, you can play with your playdoh now...Batman."

Jewels in my Crown

6/7/10

I truly believe that all of my children are jewels in my Heavenly crown.

This is my latest addition.

This babe joins three others who have gone on before.

His or her life here on Earth was not as long as we had hoped, so we in turn put our hope in Jesus.

We know this baby is at the feet of the One who created him and gave His life so that we may one day be reunited.

Tonight, I feel there is no place I had rather him be.

Tonight, I feel privileged and honored. I have been given more than I would be able to give. Through it all, my faith has been made a strong tower. My marriage has been made rich. My love for Jim reaches the depths of the Earth - for Jake stretches as wide as the horizon expands - and for God even more than those put together.

Tonight, I don't have understanding. I don't understand why He chose Jake to be the one - the one I would hold - the one who would look just like me - the one I would kiss a thousand times over - the one who wanted to be rocked tonight before I put him to sleep (even at 3 years old) - the one who I would hear say, "I love you, Mommy!". But Oh, Father, I am thankful. I have been reminded of His miracle-working power, and the peace that only He can give which surpasses all understanding, envelopes me completely.

Tonight, that is all I need.

Lord, I bow at Your feet and thank You for this jewel. Thank you for knowing what we need, when we need it. Thank you for ordering our steps and doing Your perfect will in our lives. Thank for the promise that all things work together for good according to the purpose for which You plan them. Hold this baby close to your side and help me to continue to trust in You and put my whole faith in You.

But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold. Job 23:10

McDonald's, Boogie boards, A Wedding, Torpedos, and Sonic

6/5/10

I normally don't devote an entire post to just one day in the life of us.

But today, I thought, deserved one - a title of its own - a whole story all to itself. After all, it was jam-packed with activity.

First and foremost, I must say thank you to my incredible husband for letting me sleep late...8:30 to be exact. Thank you, Baby! I'm convinced I love you today more than yesterday...for more reasons than I can voice. Getting a few extra hours of sleep was complete therapy for me. However, I woke to a hungry 3 year old who had been awake since 7 and had had no breakfast at all. Ahhhh, McDonald's hotcakes and sausage can remedy that, I thought. So I went. To McDonald's. I got there only to be cut in front of at the drive thru. I was hungry and not happy at all with the guy in a black Chevy Avalanche who had just decided he was more hungry than me and the other members of my family who were waiting for me at home to bring them their breakfast. I mouthed, "How Rude!" to him and shook my head while he smiled. I told my mom (I had called her on my way there) that it was people like this who don't know the Lord. I sat there and analyzed his spiritual condition, furious as all get out, especially every time he would look in his rear view mirror and smile. I got up to the speaker and ordered my food - hotcakes and sausage for Jake and I to share and a biscuit with gravy for the husband who let me sleep late. I pulled around and heard the guy in front of me talking about how he had cut in front of me and saying to the cashier, "You tell her I said that." So I pulled up (with my mom still on the phone and completely curious about what was about to happen). The cashier greeted me with a smile and told me that the guy in front of me had paid for my food because he had cut in front of me in line. I laughed, waved my arm out the window, and yelled "Thank you!". I was shocked. My mom was too. We laughed about it, and I repented for passing judgement.

We ate our breakfast, and our morning continued with errands. Jake and I visited the vet to buy heartworm meds for our two canine companions. We also made a quick stop at the quilting shop and then to get Jake's hair cut. We returned home to Jim finishing up with yard work, ate lunch, and laid down for naps.

After we woke, we made ourselves ready for a trip to the pool - our first this year. Jake had more fun that I can describe in words...

boogie boarding...

splashing...

jumping...

playing with his friend Alli...

throwing torpedos...

and diving to catch them...

throwing balls to his dad...

and swimming in the pool where the "big kids" do.

We stayed for nearly two hours, and this little dude didn't stop for more than 5 seconds at a time the entire time we were there.

We left just before a huge storm pushed through and made our way to Chick-fil-A where we picked up dinner and brought it home to eat. I'm still wondering if I actually ate because we were in such a hurry - in a hurry to get to Miss Anna's (one of Jake's preschool teachers) wedding. She and her fiance were married today at 6pm. She was absolutely stunning in her gown - as Jake put it best when he saw her - she looked like a "princess".

We rounded off our day with a run through another drive thru. This time it was Sonic, and no, no one cut in front of me this time. In fact, as I type this, I'm still polishing off my Lemon Berry Slush...yummmmm!

Jim is watching TV, waiting for us to take a night time walk around the neighborhood.

See?! I told you it was jam-packed! And it's not over yet! Here I come, Baby! Just let me finish this one sentence and put my shoes on!

Goodnight Everyone!

Cause to Pray

6/4/10

Tonight I have cause to pray...and for that, I am thankful.

You see, I was actually "missing" a closeness to God...longing to love Him more, need Him more - to come to a point of weakness...on my knees...clinging to the hope I have in Him. I felt as if I wasn't stretching my faith, growing as His child, and shining my light for Him.

I've known these feelings before in a very real way. It was during my journey to becoming a mom to Jake. When Jim and I longed to become parents and decided that we would no longer just "wait and see if it happened", I was full of fear - fear of failure, fear of what God's answer would be, fear that He would choose to bless us in a different way. I worried that I was asking too much of Him - that I wouldn't be able carry and deliver a healthy baby. After all, I was asking for a miracle to be done in my life, and the painful memories of two previous miscarriages during our first year of marriage gripped me with fear.

So I prayed.

I first prayed for my heart and my spirit. I prayed that no matter what God's will was for us in this situation, I would praise Him anyway. I would give Him glory anyway. I would love Him with my whole heart in all circumstances. As my prayers and the time I spent with Him increased, so did my faith. It wasn't long before I began to actually see myself as a mommy. I had all the confidence in the world that God had chosen the birthday, hair color, and eye color, of the baby only He was able to give me....if I only kept believing, loving, and asking Him (something a short time before I was afraid to do). It was a time in my life that I don't have enough words to describe. Wonderful, incredible, beautiful, amazing - all of these put together don't do it justice. I saw little things happen along the way, and I knew He was speaking to me, revealing Himself to me, all the while answering my prayers. My thankfulness to Him also can't be described in words. I still look at Jake to this very day and am completely, utterly amazed. It never goes away...knowing that he is a result of my prayers - a testament of my faith - a gift from the One who is "...able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think" (Ephesians 3:20). And I couldn't love him any more because of this.

But after he was born, something changed. He was real. He could be touched. I could hold him, feed him, rock him, care for him when he was sick. Before he was conceived and was still unborn, I was totally dependent on God. I had no control of what happened. I couldn't control whether or not I conceived or had a healthy pregnancy - this was all dependent upon God. But once he was here, I felt as if I had some control, and therefore, prayed less, spent time with God less, depended on Him less.

I missed this dependence on Him and longed for a cause to see His glory revealed again in my life.

But tonight, I don't have to anymore. I have been brought to a place where I'm nestled in the shadow of His wing. I'm seeking His comfort, His wisdom, His power, His promises to me. I'm in love with Him more today that I was yesterday, and I'm thankful...but most of all at peace. I'm okay with His will and purpose for this test of my faith, no matter what the outcome may be. I'm okay because I already have victory in Him. He has drawn me closer, and I feel His presence once again in my life. Thank you Lord! May all praise, honor and glory be yours today and always.

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
