he made me

5/15/12

This year for Mother's Day, Jake gifted me a vase - painted just by him (mostly green, a little bit of blue, and a touch of red).

And the red Gerber daisy isn't just a daisy...it's also a writing pen (a definite bonus).

He absolutely couldn't wait last week to bring it home.  Needless to say, that fact that my gift was a vase (or how much I would love it just because he made it for me) was no secret at all.

belated

5/14/12

I know this is a whole day late, but it's no less short of how I feel - that I think you are all incredible moms (or will be incredible moms).  And I hope you all had a really, really Happy Mother's Day!

Besides my own mom who I love now more than ever, the moms who I couldn't help but think about most yesterday are the ones who didn't get to hold their littles tight.  You humble me and inspire me to more thankfulness than words can say.  I hope somehow your day was better than expected.

Today, I'm at home with Jake recovering from a stomach bug that hit us both around dinner time yesterday.  We're spending our day lounging, disinfecting, eating jello and Cheezits, and lounging.  And as always, Jake is keeping me real entertained - "Mom, I got a riddle for you...This is my head.  Roses are red."

Win-ners!!!

5/8/12

Tonight it was just the little boys and I because Jim had gotten an invite to play golf with a co-worker.  So for dinner instead of eating something similar to last night (i.e. pancakes, jello, pretzels, an egg sandwich), we went straight to Chick-fil-A and then to Kmart.  I swear Kmart is the only store that carries the ONE sippy cup that Parker will drink out of, and it's right at Chick-fil-A's back door.  When at Chick-fil-A.........

We walked in, and to the right there was one of those machines full of stuffed animals - the kind where you guide the claw over the one you want it to pick up, then you push the button, and the claw does the rest.  Jake saw it and started talking about our latest experiences with them at different restaurants (not so good), and then he came up with an awesome idea..."Mom, I think they should jus' give us our money back if we don't win."  Love that boy!

We shopped and checked out, and even though I knew I wouldn't get my money back, I tried anyway.  It took two and a whole dollar (I promise you if I ever became a gambler, I'd be compulsive.  I just have to try one more time.) , but we won!

And this is...you guessed it...our lovely prize!

What I really like about him besides the sun? on his left paw is his tag that reads, "You gotta play to get 'em!"

I love it when things go just as I hoped they would.

boo boo

5/6/12

Parker got this one yesterday while trying to be his daddy's helper.  He picked up a drill and dropped it on his left foot - the metal bit nicked the top of his third toe.  :(

Oh my, he was sad, sad, sad.  Every time he caught a peek at the band aid that covered almost all of his toes, he cried all over again.

The cure?  A few minutes in his daddy's lap...and a pair of socks to cover the "reminder".

to-do

5/3/12

If he were to make a daily list of to-do's,

finding some living, creeping, crawling thing to put in this box would be on it.

for a walk about the neighborhood

5/1/12

If you're Parker and you're packing for an evening walk, you bring...your bare feet, your red, Hawaiian punch-stained shirt, your older brother's new Lightning McQueen toothbrush that you found still laying in the seat next to you from his appointment two weeks ago, a tube of your mom's lipgloss to sit on for a little extra lift in your seat,

and a whole lotta snacks.

The past few days he's been a "junk" food junkie.  He's been fighting a stomach bug since Friday, so it's been a give-him-whatever-he'll-eat-and-actually-digest seventy-two hours plus.  Good thing is he put away an entire pecan twirl at breakfast this morning (even the not-so-soft outer ring), so I think he's on the mend.

And we're really REALLY glad.
