where's the heat?

1/1/16

Brrr! The temperatures have finally dropped here and until this past weekend, rays of sunshine had been few and far between because of rain, so I've been staring at the heat and bright sun in pictures. From the flight there to our transport from the resort back to the airport (and even a few repeats are thrown in because it's been so long I couldn't remember without looking back which ones I had posted already), this is the rest of our Jamaica story.

Not a ton and most were purposeful (when they were either dressed for dinner or early in the morning) because quite honestly our bathing suits stayed as wet as theirs did so I left my camera in our room versus somewhere on an unmanned lounger. Here's to pinky swears that I'll capture more candid moments on our next excursion (I may even go really crazy and manage to get one of all four of us) and the countdown on my computer screen to our upcoming Spring Break week of fun in the sun. And heat. I like the heat.

Happy New Year, Y'all! xoxo

camp sesame

6/24/15

Ummmm...Camp Sesame was absolutely killin' it.  I never thought before we left that the boys would spend time there other than long enough for the two adults in our family to spend some time together at the spa and maaaaybe a dinner one night for two instead of four, but after one meal (on day 2) with their new friends it was all eat-with-you-who?. So every morning we would look at the schedule for the day, and if there were things on the agenda they wanted to participate in, they did.  They made tie-dye t-shirts, they made pizza from scratch and watched it cook in a brick oven, they learned some Jamaican dialect, and they went several rounds in the x-box lounge.

And the Sesame Street characters were in full force.  They appeared randomly at the pools, went on scavenger hunts with the Camp Sesame kids, marched in a parade, provided part of the nightly entertainment one evening (a dance-off with the camp kids), and if you made reservations ahead of time, they would get behind the camera for a family photoshoot and would even have breakfast with you.  So so cool.

From the morning just before we left...

yeah even the facility was a to the dorable...and then they got Camp Sesame graduation certificates, bags full of snacks and drinks for the trip home, and hugs all around.  The bomb.

jamaica no problem

6/22/15

Doing my best to forget about what to say and post it anyway.  Trying to keep this space from being totally spastic...the struggle is real, but when one is six months behind...sigh.

Ahhh....my honies in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

We filled up four nights and five days of our Spring Break at Beaches, and everything about it was incredible - the people right at the top of the list especially this cool guy, Claudy, who was manager of the non-motorized watersports.

I mean...when you go out of your way to make sure we've checked every box on our list (kayaking, sailing, snorkeling...a spin on the banana boat, a tour of the ocean on a glass bottom boat)  and you can do this...

that makes you pretty awesome in my opinion.

A trip down memory lane from this one here I come.

report cards and reporting in

6/1/15

Holy wow guys!  I just looked to see how long it's been since I actually came to my little corner of the www to document something and realized it's been almost a whole six months.  And who's counting that one liner from early December.  Just WOW.

Doing my best to pull it together here, friends.

So after a maaaajor drought (with the exception of a few days in NYC the week of Thanksgiving, Parker's new elf's mischief, their birthdays, hmmmm....Spring Break vacation, and yeah that's just about it), I recently grabbed my camera before we headed out the door to make a shopping trip to Target, and I've nearly filled up my memory card with moments from our everyday since.  Insert a big jump with a heel click right here and the reason for our trip to Target.

With big things on the syllabus like multiplication tables and cursive handwriting to learn and being tested on computing a hundred math facts in five minutes or less and putting his grammar skills to work in the form of writing essays, we all agreed that if he worked hard and his gpa proved it, it would be fair and square to reward his hard work paid off.   So when we knew he was thiiiis close to shutting down the A B Honor Roll for the whole year, we let him take a pair of beats by dr. dre for a spin to see if they had lived up to the hype he'd been giving them.

Since then, his honor roll award certificate has made its way to the pile of remnants from second grade (a box of broken crayons and pencils, used up textbooks and one subject notebooks, and the artwork that has sucka aka me written all over it) and the cheapest pair we could find online came through the mail from target.com...white and grey with a red "b" on each side.  Aaaand he's pretty sure last Friday was the "best day of [his] life".

then and now

12/17/14

Still hoping to fill in the gap between then and now but for now.

Then.

reality. check.

12/3/14

I'm so thankful last week was one of those so-good-while-it-lasted kind of weeks - full of no school and no work, traveling, Black Friday scores (on Friday), and leftovers.  It definitely makes me smile right through the alarm clocks and "Let's go!"'s of this week.

I hope you all had tons of turkey and tons to be thankful for last week too.
