Baby Legs

7/10/11

They are

Parker's

latest

fashion

statement.

Truth be told, his skin is as dry as the Sahara Desert. It's from all the bathing I do to him. But when he's been out and about, I can't help but soak him nightly...make him smell all good...get my fix on the smell of baby shampoo...watch him kick and splash and listen to him squeal because water in his bathtub is one of the highlights of his entire day.

But he's gotten patches of eczema in the creases of his arms, in various places on his legs, and in the bends of his ankles. So just before bedtime, I slap some Aquaphor on him and then cover him in rainbow striped Baby Legs (or aqua and orange striped Baby Legs or bright blue, grey, and red checked Baby Legs...you know...whatever's clean or goes with the onesie of choice for that particular night).

The Aquaphor is definitely a huge help (I was turned onto it by my coworker, L, when Jake had the same problem a few winters ago.). But when we make a visit to his pediatrician for his six month well baby check-up in the morning, I'll have him take a look at it, discuss it with him, and see if he thinks we need something that's prescription strength since it's not totally clearing up.

As a side note, no one is more excited than I am to see how much he weighs and just how long he really is.

Baby legs wearing Baby Legs...come to mommy and let me eat you up!

IN THIS HOUSE...

7/9/11

IN THIS HOUSE...
WE DO SECOND CHANCES
WE DO GRACE
WE DO REAL
WE DO MISTAKES
WE DO I'M SORRY
WE DO LOUD REALLY WELL
WE DO HUGS
WE DO FAMILY
WE DO LOVE

Can't.wait. to find a way to frame this and hang it in our house.

And credit where credit is due goes to JMom.  She posted this yesterday via Pinterest.  And yes, I pretty much flipped out and fell in love all at the same time when I read it this morning and couldn't resist sharing it.

Homemade Goo

The days this week have all just run together for me. So much that in my last post, I said Jake had brought his patriotic pinwheel home from school on Monday when in fact it was Tuesday (which I've changed already for the sake of accuracy).

I realized my mistake when I got ready to post these this morning of the goo he and I made. We made it this past Monday, July 4th, while Jim played a round of golf with his best friend, James, and Parker sat nearby in his bouncy seat which means he wasn't at school on Monday.

Cornstarch, a bowl, warm water, and blue food coloring, was all we needed to make our homemade goo.

Those few ingredients also made dozens of thank you's come from Jake's lips "because it was so much fun"...

smiles come across his face...

ten fingers get veeeeery wrinkly...

and me wonder what cruel, evil demon took over my body and possessed me to do something that would create such a huuuuuuge mess.

He had fun, though, right?

Said that at least ten times as I wiped and wiped and wiped and wiped....

I will

7/7/11

I will do unto others as I would have them do unto me.

I will be me, and I will treat myself to a pedicure when I need one.

I will open up my heart no matter how vulnerable that makes me, and I will post photos of Jake holding a patriotic pinwheel he brought home from school on Tuesday.

I will not concern myself with things that don’t concern me.

I will pick up the pieces to Jake's Let's Go Fishin' game and arch my eyebrows before I go to bed.

I will judge less, and I will try to imagine what it’s like to walk in someone else’s shoes more often.

I will trust God completely, and I will accept things I cannot change.

I will look for one set of footprints in the sand, and I will know He is who carried me through this and every other season of my life.

Something New

7/6/11

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun!... Isaiah 43:19

I walked into Parker's room, and he was wearing his usual smile from ear to ear. I fed him breakfast and settled him into his bouncy seat while I finished getting ready. It was not only his five month birthday but the first day he would spend at our church's preschool. I remember what he wore, and I remember thinking that I was doing so well - handling it all - on the way there. I talked to his teachers and talked about the week we had just spent at Disney World. I procrastinated. I remember lifting him out of his pumpkin seat and leaving my heart on the floor that I knelt down to to pick him up. I thought, "Lord, help me do this!"...and I cried. I left our church parking lot with this verse and visions of the stage God had set for me in mind - a slow transition brought about by His perfect and flawless timing.

When I got the call from Emily (our church's preschool director at the time) in late February that Parker could be enrolled in June, June sort of became "our" month. When we talked about whether or not to step out and let him start then or just pay tuition for the sake of holding his place and wait until August, Jim would always say, "I just really think something's gonna happen in June. I really feel like we should just step out in faith and see what comes out of it."

His terminal leave started, and the month of May came and went. Resumes went out daily like they had been for almost two months, and we went to Disney World. Parker started daycare on June 8th, and not more than two weeks later, Jim got a call to interview for a job at UA. He interviewed twice more over the next week and was offered the position two days after...this past Thursday...the last day of the month of June.

Tomorrow is his first day of work, and I think he's pretty excited about it.  But beyond being excited, he's certain and right...June was definitely our month.

Freedom and Friends

7/4/11

That's what we're celebrating today.

Happy 4th, Everyone!

Thirteen

7/2/11

Me: "Did you really think way back when that we'd make it this far?"

Jim: "Yes. (finishing his bite of lunch) Because of you."

When I said "I do!", I knew I had found the one. I knew I was saying "I do!" to my very best friend and the one who completes me, and I knew he was truly Heaven sent.

He wrote me these words the day we wed:

Today is the day that He has given me the greatest gift of all. That gift is you. I take these vows today with no doubt that God sent you into this world to complete me as a man. I pray that He will bless us with a wonderful Christ-filled marriage. Cindi, my love will suffer long; and will be kind; my love will not envy and will be not be puffed up; my love will bear all things, believe all things in you, hope all things, and will endure all things. I make this promise now with God and with you. I will never forsake or take your love and devotion for granted. Cindi, I can't express in words how deeply I feel for you. I feel your heartbeat even when we're not together. I feel as if we are connected in a way that has never been experienced before. When we leave here today, I will leave all others behind and always look to you for comfort and happiness. I love you.  Your husband,  Jim

What I didn't know is where we would be today.  I didn't know the ups and downs that would come our way or how we'd handle them.  I didn't know what our life would look like - where we'd live or if there would be more than just the two of us.

This morning we woke up and said "Happy Anniversary" to each other.

After thirteen of them, I'm still in love.  I'm still sure of all the things I was sure about on July 2, 1998.  I'm still amazed that with every passing year we grow and love and forgive and dream and continue on this journey together.  I'm still thankful.

And I'm still waiting to wake up again on this day every year to come and wish the love of my life a very Happy Anniversary.

I love you, Babe, with all my heart and soul.  Thanks for being in my life...today and always.
